From the Desk of Mayor Anderton

This has been a busy and productive month for me! Here’s what I’ve been up to in January.

I had the pleasure of judging the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year contest. Out of seven incredible finalists, one will be chosen to represent Central Alabama at the state Youth of the Year contest on February 19th. We have some incredible young people in our area and the choice was nearly impossible!

I loved being able to support the Clay-Chalkville High School softball team at their pancake fundraiser and cheering on the Clay-Chalkville High School basketball youth night. I am privileged to serve this community.

I'm pleased to announce that we've welcomed three key team members to the City of Clay: City Clerk, City Administrator, and Communications Specialist. These hires will strengthen our capacity to serve you more effectively and efficiently.

We also established a new Finance Committee this month, whose job it will be to provide oversight and strategic planning for our city's financial management. Fiscal responsibility and transparency remains a top priority for our administration.

January 21st found Councilors Thompson and Harris and I with 300 other mayors and council members in Montgomery at the Alabama League of Municipalities Advocacy Day. I listened to interviews with Katie Britt and other legislative leaders and was updated on state elections and reporting requirements.

We hosted a Clay Youth Sports Town Hall meeting on January 29th, where we heard from Derek Rios (TFC) and Terelle West (mentor). I was encouraged by the engagement from parents, coaches, and community members. Your input on what was important for our children is invaluable as we continue to build a program that serves our families.

January 2026 was a month of connection and progress! I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve you and look forward to what we'll accomplish together in the months ahead.
